It’s all about performances.

The Future Envelope 12
& FACEcamp Results Seminar

Conference on Building Envelopes
20-21 May 2019, NOI Techpark, Bolzano (Italy)

It’s all about performances.

New design tool and approaches, and innovative construction methods are enabling architects and engineers to conceive and develop increasingly complex and daring building envelopes. This process is rapidly reshaping our built environment, and transforming the concept of building envelope itself, which is no longer a passive and static element that only separates the indoor environment from the outdoor world. In this fast changing context, one of the major issues is the evaluation of the performances of such complex façade systems. The different functions of a complex building envelope have their respective requirements, and hence designers have to analyze and ensure the performances of overall faced system.

The aim of “Facade performances” is therefore to provide insights into the performances of these innovative building envelopes considering on four thematic areas, namely architecture, energy, comfort, and economics and management. Hence, the focus will be on the shape of the new envelopes, on their implications on the overall building energy consumption, on the comfort experienced by the occupants of these buildings, and on the financial performances and the new business models that are part of these innovative solutions. For each topic, three leading experts will be invited from research and academia, design firms, and construction companies respectively to share a wide range of experiences, ideas, and visions.

The conference organization is led by IDM South Tyrol & EURAC Research, supported by Free University of Bolzano, University of Innsbruck, and Politecnico of Milano as scientific partners, and in cooperation with the European Façade Network (EFN). This event is funded by the ITA-AUT Interreg project FACEcamp being the project final conference.

efnMOBILE 2.0 book

Enjoy the new efnMOBILE 2.0 book. It provides the European Facade Network (efn), its conferences and the connected professional community with a local platform for communication, exhibition, innovative development, and interaction.

It also includes an overview of the nine existing international European masters programs, that teach theoretical and practice-oriented skills of digital analysis-, design-, planning- and production methods and detailed overview of the latest technological developments in facades. The majority of them prepares for international projects in international markets. Therefore, teamwork and presentation skills have a fixed place in most curricula.

Our FACE | FAÇADES ARCHITECTURE CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING training program organized in Bolzano by IDM South Tyrol and EURAC research in partnership with the Façades Working Group is one of these 9 programs. Stay tuned for the incoming new 3rd edition of FACE (2018).

///efnMOBIL 2.0 book

Based on the experiences of efnMOBILE 1.0 the hands-on student workshop activities and exhibitions took place in different environments and locations encouraging new technologies and methodologies. Like efnMOBILE 1.0 the new workshop series efnMOBILE 2.0 provides the European Facade Network (efn), its conferences and the connected professional community with a local platform for communication, exhibition, innovative development, and interaction. efnMOBILE 2.0 is reaching out to be developed from a European communication and technology exchange instrument into an international tool to exchange with the global facade community.
All events of efnMOBILE 2.0 follow an overall theme: ‘Efficient Envelopes’. Focusing towards adaptive and transdisciplinary approaches to improve the building envelope’s thus the building’s performance through human-centered solutions in facade technology. The task is to inspire the upcoming generation of architects, designers, and engineers to allow themselves to follow uncharted paths of development, think outside the box, to build showcase…
